First 300 guests at Irvine Spectrum event at 4 p.m. Saturday will receive free Wahoo’s fish taco to highlight Taco Transit Tuesdays
ORANGE – A 40-foot OC Bus is set to become a giant “taco truck” serving up free Wahoo’s fish tacos to the first 300 guests at the Irvine Spectrum at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 11.
The Orange County Transportation Authority and Wahoo’s Fish Taco are teaming up again for the giveaway to help promote Taco Transit Tuesdays.
The ongoing program, which began in April, allows transit riders to visit any participating Wahoo’s restaurant in Southern California each Tuesday, and when they show a valid OC Bus, OC Flex or Metrolink pass, they can get a free taco with the purchase of a taco.
Saturday’s event aims to bring more attention to the Taco Transit Tuesday by serving up tacos straight from the 40-foot bus, wrapped with the promotion’s bright pink, teal and yellow logo.
The free tacos, provided by Wahoo’s, go to the first 300 visitors – first come, first served. The taco giveaway is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at Irvine Spectrum, near the H&M and Apple stores. (Irvine Spectrum is at 670 Spectrum Center Dr. Irvine, CA, 92618.)
Wing Lam, co-founder of Wahoo’s and a supporter of public transit to help sustain the environment, is scheduled to be on hand to help cook the tacos served from the bus.
“We all need to do our part: Use less plastic straws and bags, recycle what we can, and use public transportation when possible,” Lam said when the promotion began.
OCTA operates more than 500 buses in the OC Bus system, helping people get to their destinations across Orange County for $2 per ride or $5 per day.
OCTA recently introduced OC Flex, an on-demand microtransit system, that is currently in a pilot program in two zones – one in Huntington Beach and Westminster, and the other in parts of Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo and Mission Viejo. (Visit www.ocflex.com for more information on that program.)
Other transit options include Metrolink commuter rail. Metrolink’s Orange Line, which runs through Orange County between Oceanside and Los Angeles, is celebrating 25 years of service this year, and now has ridership topping 10,000 boardings per day.
