New 8-week training sessions will be conducted one day a week at Saddleback College. Each class will last approximately five hours. Participants do not need to be enrolled at Saddleback College to attend. Seats are limited.

Get an OCTA Interview – Guaranteed!

Qualified participants who complete the training program are guaranteed an interview as an OCTA bus driver. As part of the program, participants will have the opportunity to work directly with OCTA to prepare them for the application and interview process. 

Starting pay is $20.48 per hour. Drivers can earn a $3,000* hiring bonus.

Bus drivers are in demand! This free training provides everything you need to take advantage of this great opportunity.

Pre-trip inspection
All bus drivers must be able to perform a federally mandated thorough bus check to ensure there are no mechanical problems and that all systems are working properly.
Safety Procedures
Driving a bus is different than driving a car – our curriculum is designed to ease participants into the intricacies of commercial driving from basic control to emergencies.
Behind-the-wheel training
Program participants will receive an opportunity for hands-on training on one of OCTA’s 40-foot buses!
Commercial permit preparation
You will learn the content and study skills to prepare to take the three-part DMV Commercial Learner’s Permit test necessary for employment with transportation agencies like OCTA.

Application and interview practice is provided by career professionals along with a preview of what to expect during our hiring process.

Driver Requirements


OCTA will confirm all participants meet the eligibility requirements before an interview will be scheduled.

  • ✓ A minimum of 1 year customer service experience.
  • ✓ A valid U.S. driver's license for a minimum of 3 years with no DMV points.
  • ✓ Applicants can apply with a Class C driver's license.
  • ✓ Current DMV K4 must be submitted.
  • ✓ At least 21 years old.
